TOK rotary dampers turn a slamming lid, a dropping cover or a snapping drawer into a slow, controlled movement. Inside each damper, silicone oil resists rotation, so the torque you feel is smooth and repeatable for hundreds of thousands of cycles. Phil Industries distributes TOK rotary dampers in Singapore and supports OEM designers, appliance makers, automotive interior teams and enclosure builders with model selection, samples and after-sales support.

Which TOK rotary damper do you need?

TOK groups its dampers by how the shaft is loaded and how far it turns. The table below maps the families we supply to the movements they control.

Movement Models What sets them apart
Vertical-use lids and covers (gravity assists closing) TD99 vertical, TD38, TD75 TD99 is the best-selling design; TD38 lasts 300,000 cycles; TD75 is the smallest vertical damper at Ø 11 mm
Horizontal-use doors and flaps TD99 horizontal, TD60, TD42, TD56 TD60 is the thinnest; TD42 reaches 8.8 N·m; TD56 responds fastest
Continuous rotation (reels, dials, tape paths) TD58, TD62, TD88, TD96 Unlimited rotation angle; TD58 offers the highest continuous-rotation torque
Ultra-compact bidirectional TD101 (Ø 6 mm), TD130 (Ø 10 mm), TD102, TD136 Damp both directions in a space the size of a pencil
High torque in a small body TD129 (4 N·m at Ø 16 mm), TD133, TD112, TD100, TD22 Zinc-alloy shafts give rigidity and torque up to 4 N·m
Wide opening angles TD154 (290°), TD159 (280°) For lids that fold right back
Hinge type and adjustable TD89 (10 N·m, stainless exterior), TD27/28, SR3 TD89 is the strongest TOK damper; TD27/28 lets you tune torque; SR3 self-adjusts below 1 N·m

How to select a rotary damper

  • First, work out the load torque: the mass of the lid multiplied by the distance from the hinge to its centre of gravity, at the angle where it is heaviest.
  • Next, decide the direction. A one-way damper resists closing but lets the lid open freely, whereas a bidirectional damper slows both movements.
  • Then match the angle and orientation: vertical-use dampers for lids that gravity closes, horizontal-use for side-hinged doors, continuous rotation for anything that spins.
  • Finally, check the environment. For example, TD69 uses PEI plastic for −5 °C to 80 °C, TD54 and TD99 use chemical-resistant PBT, and TD159 offers a chromate anti-rust version.

Because closing time depends on the torque curve as well as the rating, we recommend testing two or three candidate models on your actual mechanism. Our guide to what a rotary damper is and how it works explains the physics.

Where TOK dampers are used in Singapore

Appliance and consumer-electronics makers use them on printer covers, rice-cooker lids and washing-machine doors. Automotive interior suppliers use them on glove boxes, cup holders and grab handles. In addition, medical device and laboratory equipment builders use them on analyser lids and sample drawers, where a slam would disturb the sample or the operator. Piano and furniture makers use the TD90 and hinge-type models for soft-closing lids.

Frequently asked questions about TOK rotary dampers

What is the difference between a one-way and a bidirectional rotary damper?

A one-way damper resists rotation in one direction only, so a lid closes slowly but opens freely. A bidirectional damper resists both directions, which suits covers that must move gently either way.

How much torque do I need?

Calculate the moment of the lid at its heaviest angle, then choose a damper rated slightly above it. TOK ranges from a fraction of a newton-metre on compact models to 10 N·m on the TD89 hinge damper.

How long do TOK dampers last?

Rated life depends on the model; for example, TD38 and SR3 are rated for 300,000 cycles and TD75 and TD22 for 100,000 cycles. Ask us for the datasheet of the model you are considering.

Can I get samples in Singapore?

Yes. Phil Industries supplies TOK evaluation samples and small quantities from Singapore, and quotes production volumes with lead time. Send us the lid mass, hinge distance and opening angle and we will shortlist models.
