ESD footwear and heel straps do nothing on an insulative floor — the circuit never closes. Phil Industries supplies anti-static flooring in Singapore to order: dissipative vinyl, conductive epoxy, rubber and interlocking tiles, specified against your ANSI/ESD S20.20 programme.
🧱 Flooring options
| Type | Best for | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Dissipative vinyl tile | Electronics production, retrofit | Fast to lay over existing screed |
| Conductive epoxy coating | New build, heavy traffic | Seamless and easy to clean |
| Conductive rubber | Standing lines | Comfortable underfoot, hard wearing |
| Interlocking ESD tiles | Partial areas, leased premises | Liftable; no permanent bonding |
| Dissipative mats and runners | Single benches, walkways | Lowest cost route to a compliant zone |
📊 Why the floor decides the outcome
Person-to-ground path, ANSI/ESD S20.20
| Insulative floor + ESD shoes |
|
No path — charge stays on the operator |
|---|---|---|
| Dissipative floor + ESD shoes |
|
Controlled drain — compliant |
| Conductive floor + ESD shoes |
|
Fastest drain — check the limits |
Illustrative, not measured values. The floor and footwear are qualified together as a system, never separately.
📚 Standards your auditor will cite
| ANSI/ESD S20.20 | ESD control programme — person-to-ground requirements |
|---|---|
| ANSI/ESD S7.1 | Resistive characterisation of floor materials |
| ANSI/ESD STM97.1 | Resistance of the floor and footwear system in combination |
| ANSI/ESD STM97.2 | Voltage measured on a person in that system |
| IEC 61340-4-1 | Electrical resistance of floor coverings |
| IEC 61340-4-5 | Footwear, flooring and person as a system |
📝 What we need to quote
- Floor area in m² and the existing substrate
- Whether operators sit, stand or move trolleys
- The footwear already in use — the system is qualified together
- Whether the area is ISO-classified as well as an EPA
- Access hours, since most installs run outside production
❓ Common questions
Do I need conductive or dissipative flooring?
Dissipative suits most electronics production. Conductive drains faster and is specified where the process demands it — but both must be verified against S20.20 limits with your actual footwear.
Can I just use ESD mats instead?
For a handful of benches, yes. Once operators walk between stations, a floor system is the honest answer.
Will ESD shoes work on our current floor?
Only if it is dissipative or conductive. Test it before buying footwear — we can advise on the measurement.
Do you install in Singapore?
Yes. We supply and install to order rather than hold stock, so the listings below are enquiry items. Send us the area and we will quote against it.
