Electrical handling gloves are specialist insulating PPE for Singapore power utility crews, M&E contractors, switchgear and panel builders, data centre maintenance teams, MRT and rail traction technicians, and EV charging installers. Phil Industries supplies Polyco Healthline insulating gloves certified to IEC 60903 / EN 60903, from Class 00 (500V AC) to Class 4 (36,000V AC).
Why no other glove will do
Live working and work-near-live on LV and HV networks, building risers and data centre busbars carries arc flash and electric shock risks that no general-purpose glove addresses. As a result, Singapore Standard SS 638 and EMA licensing both expect properly classed, in-date insulating gloves — therefore the class on the cuff has to satisfy both the audit and the actual job.
Match the class to the voltage
| Class | Max working voltage (AC) | Typical work |
|---|---|---|
| Class 00 | 500 V | Low-voltage maintenance |
| Class 0 | 1,000 V | General LV work |
| Class 1 | 7,500 V | Distribution and switching |
| Class 2 | 17,000 V | HV switchgear |
| Class 3 – 4 | 26,500 – 36,000 V | Transmission and substation |
Therefore always select the class rated above your working voltage, and keep the proof-voltage margin in mind.
The range
- Class 00 to Class 4 insulating gloves — matched to the system voltage, because under-classing is not a saving.
- Leather over-gloves — these take the abrasion, so it never reaches the dielectric layer.
- Arc flash inner liners — for example where thermal and dielectric protection are both required.
Furthermore, plan for the over-glove from the start: the leather protector handles abrasion and puncture against the insulating rubber, and without it the rubber’s life is short.
Frequently asked questions
How are insulating gloves rated?
EN/IEC 60903 tests live-working gloves and classifies them by voltage class — 00, 0, 1, 2, 3, 4 — each with a maximum working voltage. Therefore select the class above your working voltage and have gloves periodically re-tested.
Are general industrial gloves safe for electrical work?
No. For live work, use only gloves certified to EN/IEC 60903 for electrical insulation. EN 388 mechanical gloves are not electrically rated, and anti-static (ESD) gloves serve a different purpose again — they drain static, they do not insulate against mains voltage.
How often should insulating gloves be inspected?
Inspect before every use for damage. In addition, re-test them electrically at intervals, in line with local regulations and manufacturer guidance. Because a pinhole is invisible, withdraw any damaged glove from use immediately.
Do you supply electrical handling gloves in Singapore?
Yes. So tell us your voltage class and task, and we will recommend and supply the right glove, usually for next-working-day delivery.
