Torque Multiplier Reaction Devices
A torque multiplier only works safely when its reaction device has somewhere solid to push against. Because a multiplier turns, for example, 100 N·m of input into 2,000 N·m or more at the fastener, an equal and opposite force builds up in the tool body. Therefore Mountz reaction bars, reaction feet and reaction rings give that force a fixed anchor point, so the operator never has to hold it back by hand.
Which Mountz reaction device do you need?
- Reaction bar: the standard choice, because it braces against an adjacent nut, flange or frame member. So it suits most flange bolting and heavy maintenance work.
- Reaction foot: a short, angled foot that braces against a flat surface next to the bolt. As a result it fits confined spaces where a long bar cannot swing.
- Reaction ring: a circular reaction that braces against a bolt-circle pattern, for example on wind-turbine hubs, gearboxes and large flanges. In addition, it spreads the load evenly.
Matching the reaction device to your torque multiplier

Do I always need a reaction device with a torque multiplier? Yes. Without one the tool body rotates backwards with the full output torque, which is dangerous and gives an inaccurate result.
Can one reaction bar fit several multipliers? Only within the same spline size. Therefore always check the multiplier model before ordering.
