In Singapore and the UK many buyers ask for a torque spanner rather than a torque wrench, and some call it a range spanner. They mean the same tool. Likewise, a torque adjustable wrench is simply an adjustable click wrench such as the Mountz EPT, where the operator dials in the value. How to choose the capacity
- First, list the highest and lowest target torques on the job, because a wrench is most accurate in the middle of its range.
- Next, keep every target between 20% and 100% of the wrench capacity; for example, a 20 N·m joint suits a 5 – 25 N·m wrench, not a 100 N·m one.
- Then match the drive: 1/4″ square for electronics and small fasteners, 3/8″ and 1/2″ for general assembly, 3/4″ and above for heavy bolting.
- Finally, decide who sets the value. Preset and break-over wrenches remove operator choice, while adjustable wrenches keep it.

A click wrench signals the set torque with a click, but the operator can still pull past it. A break-over wrench pivots at the set torque, so further pull applies almost no additional torque. For this reason, break-over wrenches suit low-torque, high-consequence joints.
Which torque wrench suits electronics and PCB assembly?
Choose a break-over wrench such as the TB, TBIH or MMTB for joints below 6 N·m, or an FGC cam-over wrench for 1 – 75 N·m where over-torque must be impossible. Both give a clear stop that protects threads and components.
