How to choose a protective plug
- First, measure the bore diameter and depth, or note the thread designation for a screw plug.
- Next, decide how tight it must seal. A press-fit plug keeps dirt out; a screw plug also resists wash-down pressure and vibration.
- Then check the process temperature. Standard plugs are LDPE; parts that pass through paint ovens or e-coating need the high-temperature versions.
- Finally, plan removal. Grip plugs and tab plugs speed up de-plugging, and colour coding helps operators see which ports are still sealed.
