ESD safe chairs in Singapore are static-dissipative office and lab chairs with conductive casters, draglines or grounding chains that bleed body charge to ground while seated, protecting ESD-sensitive devices on the bench in semiconductor, PCB and medical-device EPAs.

Phil Industries supplies 30+ ESD safe chair SKUs in Singapore — PU and vinyl upholstery, height-adjustable gas lifts, with or without armrests and footrings. Last updated: 17 May 2026.

All chairs comply with IEC 61340-5-1 and ANSI/ESD STM12.1 (seating resistance 10⁶–10¹¹ Ω). Cleanroom variants are validated for ISO 14644-1 Class 5–7.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is an ESD safe chair?

An ESD safe chair is a static-dissipative chair built with conductive upholstery, frame and casters (or a trailing dragline) so that a seated operator stays continuously grounded to a conductive floor. ESD chairs are required PPE at any ANSI/ESD S20.20 workstation handling ESDS components.

How do ESD chairs ground the operator?

ESD chairs ground operators via conductive casters or a dragline that contacts an ESD floor mat or tile. Resistance from the seat pan through to ground must stay between 10⁶ and 10¹¹ Ω for the chair to be classified static-dissipative under ANSI/ESD STM12.1.

Do ESD chairs need a wrist strap?

No — ESD chairs do not need a wrist strap. They provide the alternate continuous grounding path for seated operators per ANSI/ESD S20.20, which allows wrist straps to be omitted when ESD footwear plus a conductive floor or ESD chair is in use.

How often should ESD chairs be tested?

ESD chairs in Singapore should be resistance-tested every 6 months using a 100 V megger between the seat pan and a known ground point. Phil Industries can supply test kits or perform on-site verification.

Are cleanroom and ESD chairs the same thing?

Not always. Cleanroom chairs use low-particulate vinyl or polypropylene to minimise shedding, while ESD chairs add conductive paths. Phil Industries’ Class 100 series chairs are both — cleanroom-rated and ESD-grounding in one unit.
