Description
ESDpro AF0036 is a Class 100 ESD fabric: a 102 gsm 1/1 twill of 98% polyester with a 2% carbon-fibre 5 mm grid, made for garments in Class 100 to 1000 cleanrooms rather than the Class 1000 to 10000 rooms most coverall cloths target. It comes in navy blue with other colours to order. Phil Industries supplies it by the roll from Ubi, Singapore.
What makes a cloth suitable for Class 100
Tighter cleanroom classes need a garment that sheds fewer particles and generates less charge. AF0036 uses a fine, dense 1/1 twill at 102 gsm, so fibres stay inside the cloth, and its friction charge is held under 150 V, half the figure of a general coverall fabric. Because the 5 mm carbon grid runs in both directions, the garment also measures 10⁶ to 10⁸ Ω point to point.
The lighter weight keeps the garment comfortable under a full gowning regime with hood, mask and boots. In addition, navy is easy to distinguish from the white garments used in less critical areas, so gowning errors are visible at a glance.

Applications
Semiconductor fabs, hard-disk media rooms, optics coating and pharmaceutical aseptic areas use AF0036 for coveralls, hoods and boot covers in Class 100 to 1000 rooms. For the 1/2 twill variant at 101 gsm see AF0035; for Class 1000 to 10000 rooms the heavier AF0080 grid cloth is the economical choice.
Frequently asked questions
How is this different from the standard 5 mm grid cloth?
AF0036 is lighter, uses a tighter 1/1 twill and holds its friction charge under 150 V, which is why it is rated for Class 100 to 1000 rooms. AF0080 is heavier and rated for Class 1000 to 10000.
Can garments in it be qualified under ANSI/ESD S20.20?
Yes. The cloth sits in the dissipative range, so garments qualify when you test them to ANSI/ESD STM2.1 or IEC 61340-4-9. Test the finished garment as made.
How should it be laundered?
On a cleanroom laundry cycle without fabric softener. The carbon is woven in, so the property is permanent.
