Description
ESDpro AF0040 is the elastic rib knit used for the cuffs, ankles and collars of cleanroom coveralls and ESD jackets. It is knitted from 93% polyester and 5% spandex with 2% carbon fibre, in a 7 cm wide band at 280 gsm, in grey or blue. Garment makers in Singapore buy it by the roll from Phil Industries at Ubi to finish coveralls made from our woven ESD fabrics.
Why the cuff needs its own ESD fabric
A coverall body is a stiff woven twill, but the wrist and ankle openings have to grip the skin to stop particles escaping and to keep the sleeve in contact with the operator. That needs a stretch knit, and an ordinary elastic rib would be an insulating break in an otherwise dissipative garment. AF0040 solves both problems: the spandex gives recovery so the cuff still grips after hundreds of washes, and the carbon fibre keeps it at 10⁶ to 10⁷ Ω so it is part of the grounding path.
The 7 cm width is the common cuff height for coveralls; we can supply 5 to 12 cm widths on request. Because the rib is knitted with the carbon yarn rather than coated, it keeps its resistivity for the life of the garment.

Applications
AF0040 goes on the wrists, ankles and neck of cleanroom coveralls, ESD jackets and lab coats made for semiconductor, electronics and pharmaceutical plants. It also suits repair work: laundries and garment services in Singapore use it to replace stretched or damaged cuffs on existing coveralls instead of scrapping the garment.
Frequently asked questions
Does the cuff need to be conductive if the coverall body already is?
Yes, if the garment is to be grounded through the wearer. The cuff is the part of the sleeve in contact with the wrist, so an insulating cuff breaks the path between operator and garment. AF0040 keeps that path at 10⁶ to 10⁷ Ω.
Can you supply other widths or colours?
Widths from 5 to 12 cm and other colours are available to order. Grey and blue are the standard roll stock.
Which coverall fabric does it pair with?
Any of our woven ESD fabrics; most customers pair it with the 5 mm stripe or 5 mm grid polyester twills. Ask us for matched swatches so the cuff colour sits well with the body cloth.
