Description

ESDpro AF0080 is a 5 mm grid ESD fabric: a 105–115 gsm 1/2 twill of 98% polyester with 2% carbon fibre woven as a square grid every 5 mm. The grid gives a dissipative path in both directions of the cloth, which is why buyers specify it over a stripe for cleanroom coveralls that must pass a garment resistance test point-to-point. Phil Industries stocks it by the roll at Ubi in white, with yellow, blue, red and green to order.

Why a 5 mm grid instead of a stripe

A stripe conducts along the warp only. A 5 mm grid adds a conductive yarn across the weft as well, so any two points on the garment are connected through the cloth without relying on seams. That is the construction most cleanroom garment specifications mean when they say “grid” or “checked” ESD fabric, and it is the one to choose when the purchase order quotes a point-to-point resistance limit. AF0080 measures 10⁸ to 10⁹ Ω with a friction charge under 200 V.

The 100 denier 1/2 twill is shrink-resistant and tear-resistant, holds its dimensions through repeated laundering, and passes air at around 30 cc/cm²/s so the garment stays wearable. In addition, the carbon is woven in rather than coated, so the property does not wash out.

AF0080 is the body cloth for launderable cleanroom coveralls, frocks and hoods in semiconductor, disk-drive, optics and pharmaceutical plants, and for ESD workwear in EPAs where a grid pattern is specified. Pair it with our AF0040 rib cuff fabric to finish the garment.

Frequently asked questions

Grid or stripe: which should I order?

If your garment specification quotes a point-to-point resistance limit or simply says “grid”, order this cloth. If it only calls for a static-dissipative fabric and cost matters, the 5 mm stripe AF0060 is lighter and slightly cheaper.

Will garments in this fabric meet ANSI/ESD S20.20?

The cloth measures 10⁸ to 10⁹ Ω, within the dissipative range, so garments can be qualified using ANSI/ESD STM2.1 or IEC 61340-4-9. Test the finished garment as made.

What cleanroom class is it suitable for?

Class 1000 to 10000 (ISO 6 to 7) as a laundered coverall. For Class 100 rooms discuss the garment system with us; the fabric is only one part of the answer.
