Description
ESDpro AF0634 is a knitted ESD fabric rather than a woven one: a 150 gsm polyester knit with a carbon-fibre stripe that stretches and breathes like a T-shirt while still dissipating static. Garment makers use it for the layer under a cleanroom coverall, and for ESD polo shirts on production lines that do not need a full cleanroom garment. Phil Industries supplies it by the roll in white from Ubi, Singapore.
Why a knit for the inner layer
A woven coverall controls particles, but the garment beneath it touches the operator all shift. A polyester knit moves with the body and wicks better than a woven twill, so it is far more comfortable for eight hours in a 20 °C cleanroom. Because the knit is 99% polyester with the carbon stripe knitted in, it sheds almost no lint and does not undermine the coverall’s particle control.
The carbon stripe puts the fabric at 10⁶ to 10⁸ Ω, so a T-shirt or polo made from it is itself static dissipative rather than an insulating layer hiding under a compliant outer garment. As a result, the whole clothing system behaves the way an ESD audit expects.

Applications
Semiconductor, disk-drive and optics plants use AF0634 for the T-shirts and undergarments that go with cleanroom coveralls. In addition, electronics assembly lines use it for ESD polo shirts and uniform tops where operators work at grounded benches. Pair it with our woven 5 mm stripe or grid fabrics for the outer garment.
Frequently asked questions
Can a knitted fabric really be ESD-safe?
Yes. Because the carbon-fibre yarn runs through the knit as a continuous stripe, the fabric measures 10⁶ to 10⁸ Ω. What matters is that the conductive yarn continues through the cloth, not whether the construction is woven or knitted.
Is it lint-free enough for a cleanroom?
Yes, for its purpose: it is a low-linting polyester knit that operators wear under a cleanroom coverall, or as the outer garment in EPAs and Class 10000 areas. However, for the outer layer in tighter classes, use one of our woven fabrics.
How should it be laundered?
Wash it as normal polyester knitwear on an industrial or cleanroom laundry cycle. Skip fabric softeners, because their residue changes surface resistivity readings. Meanwhile, the anti-static property itself does not wash out.
