Blue 4 mm Grid ESD TC Fabric, 65/33/2 Polyester-Cotton-Carbon, 1/2 Twill – ESDpro AF0106BL

Blue 4 mm grid ESD TC fabric: 65% polyester, 33% cotton, 2% carbon fibre, 120–150 gsm 1/2 twill, surface resistivity 10⁶–10⁸ Ω, friction charge under 200 V. A cotton-blend cloth for ESD workwear, smocks and lab coats. ESDpro model AF0106BL, supplied by the roll from Ubi, Singapore.

Description

ESDpro AF0106BL is a blue ESD TC fabric, the polyester-cotton blend that Singapore electronics plants use for everyday ESD smocks, jackets and lab coats. It is a 1/2 twill of 65% polyester and 33% cotton, with a 2% carbon-fibre yarn in a 4 mm grid, and it weighs 120–150 gsm. Phil Industries supplies it by the roll from Ubi, with red, grey, gold and green also available.

Why a cotton blend for ESD workwear

Pure polyester ESD fabrics are the right answer inside a cleanroom, but they are not the most comfortable cloth for an eight-hour shift at a bench in an EPA. Blending in a third cotton gives a softer, more absorbent garment that operators wear buttoned up. In practice, that matters more to an ESD programme than the last decimal of resistivity. The 4 mm carbon grid keeps the fabric at 10⁶ to 10⁸ Ω with a friction charge below 200 V.

The 100 denier 1/2 twill construction is durable and takes industrial laundering well. Because the carbon sits in the yarn rather than on the surface, the dissipative property lasts the life of the garment. In addition, we can supply custom 2.5 mm and 5 mm stripe versions on the same base cloth.

Applications

AF0106BL is the standard cloth for ESD smocks, jackets and lab coats on PCB assembly, SMT, test and repair lines, and for uniform workwear in EPAs where operators want a cotton feel. However, for ISO 14644-1 cleanroom garments choose one of our 100% polyester fabrics instead, because cotton blends lint more.

Frequently asked questions

Can a cotton-blend fabric be used inside a cleanroom?

Keep it to EPAs and Class 10000 areas. Cotton fibres shed, so for tighter cleanroom classes we recommend the polyester stripe or grid fabrics in our range instead.

What resistivity should I expect on the finished smock?

The cloth measures 10⁶ to 10⁸ Ω. Therefore garments made from it qualify under ANSI/ESD S20.20 when you test them to ANSI/ESD STM2.1 or IEC 61340-4-9. Always test the finished garment, because seams and snaps affect the result.

Is it available in other colours?

Yes. We stock blue, we can order red, grey, gold and green, and we also carry the black version of the same cloth.
