Description
ESDpro AF0106BK is the black version of our polyester-cotton ESD twill: a black ESD fabric of 65% polyester and 33% cotton with a 2% carbon-fibre yarn woven in a 4 mm grid, 120–150 gsm. Singapore plants order it for dark ESD jackets, smocks and uniform workwear that must look like company clothing rather than a lab coat. Phil Industries supplies it by the roll from Ubi.
Why black ESD workwear, and why a cotton blend
Black hides solder flux, grease and general wear better than white. For that reason, many production sites issue dark jackets, so the uniform reads as engineering rather than cleanroom. Static control does not care about colour: the 4 mm carbon grid keeps AF0106BK at 10⁶ to 10⁸ Ω with a friction charge below 200 V, the same as the blue and white versions of the cloth.
The third cotton makes the garment softer and more absorbent than a pure polyester ESD fabric, so operators keep it buttoned. The 100 denier 1/2 twill launders well, and because the carbon sits in the yarn, the dissipative property lasts the life of the garment. In addition, we can supply custom 2.5 mm and 5 mm stripe versions.

Applications
Garment makers cut AF0106BK into ESD jackets, smocks and uniform shirts for SMT and PCB assembly, box-build, test, repair and field-service teams, and into dark static-control garments for warehouses handling sensitive stock. However, keep it to EPAs and Class 10000 areas, because cotton blends lint too much for tighter cleanrooms.
Frequently asked questions
Does a black fabric hide contamination that a cleanroom audit would catch?
It can, which is why cleanroom managers keep dark cloth out of classified rooms. In an EPA that is not a concern, so plants prefer the black cloth for exactly that reason.
Is the ESD performance the same as the blue version?
Yes. AF0106BL and AF0106BK share the same base cloth and 4 mm carbon grid; only the dye differs. Both measure 10⁶ to 10⁸ Ω.
Can garments made from it be grounded?
Yes. We can fit jackets and smocks with a grounding snap, and you can then qualify them under ANSI/ESD STM2.1 or IEC 61340-4-9. Always test the finished garment, because seams and closures affect the result.
