5 mm Stripe ESD Fabric, 99% Polyester / 1% Carbon, 110 gsm Twill – ESDpro AF0060

5 mm stripe ESD fabric in 99% polyester / 1% carbon fibre, 110–115 gsm 1/2 twill, surface resistivity 10⁸–10⁹ Ω, friction charge under 300 V. The standard cloth for Class 1000–10000 cleanroom coveralls and smocks. ESDpro model AF0060, supplied by the roll from Ubi, Singapore.

Description

ESDpro AF0060 is the workhorse stripe ESD fabric for cleanroom garments: a 110–115 gsm 1/2 twill woven from 99% polyester with a 1% carbon-fibre stripe every 5 mm. It is the cloth most Singapore garment makers reach for when a customer specifies Class 1000 to Class 10000 coveralls, smocks and hoods. Phil Industries stocks it by the roll at Ubi in white, blue, pink, yellow and green, with other colours on request.

Why a 5 mm carbon stripe in a polyester twill

Polyester on its own charges easily, so the carbon-fibre yarn woven in every 5 mm gives static a continuous path to bleed away across the garment. Because the stripe runs the full length of the roll, the dissipative path survives cutting and sewing, which is why this construction is used for the body panels of ESD coveralls rather than for trims. The fabric measures 10⁸ to 10⁹ Ω surface resistivity and generates under 300 V by friction, comfortably inside the static-dissipative range garment programmes ask for.

The 100 denier warp and weft in a 1/2 twill keep the weave tight enough to hold particles in while still passing air at about 30 cc/cm²/s, so operators stay cool without the cloth linting into the room. In addition, the carbon is part of the yarn rather than a coating, so laundering does not wash the anti-static property out.

Applications

AF0060 is specified for launderable cleanroom coveralls, smocks, hoods and caps in semiconductor, hard-disk, optics and electronics assembly, and for ESD workwear in EPAs where a light, breathable polyester is preferred over cotton blends. For a finer particle barrier in Class 100 rooms, look at the 5 mm grid variants in our range instead.

Frequently asked questions

Is a 5 mm stripe or a 5 mm grid better for my cleanroom?

A stripe gives a dissipative path in one direction and is lighter and more breathable, which suits Class 1000 to 10000 rooms. A grid adds a cross path and is usually chosen for Class 100 rooms or where the garment specification calls for it. Tell us your cleanroom class and we will recommend the cloth rather than guess.

Will garments made from this fabric pass an ANSI/ESD S20.20 garment test?

The fabric measures 10⁸ to 10⁹ Ω, inside the dissipative range, so garments can be qualified using ANSI/ESD STM2.1 or IEC 61340-4-9. As always, test the finished garment as made, because seams and closures matter as much as the cloth.

Does the anti-static property wash out?

No. The carbon fibre is woven into the yarn, so the property is permanent. Use a cleanroom laundry procedure and avoid fabric softeners, which leave residues that change surface resistivity readings.
