ESD Rib Knit Fabric, 90% Polyester / 10% Carbon, 240 gsm, 6 mm Stripe, White or Black – ESDpro AF0120

High-carbon ESD rib knit fabric: 90% polyester / 10% carbon fibre, 240 gsm, 6 mm stripe, surface resistivity 10⁶–10⁷ Ω, in white or black. For cuffs, collars and hems on ESD jackets, polos and cleanroom garments. ESDpro model AF0120, supplied by the roll from Ubi, Singapore.

Description

ESDpro AF0120 is a high-carbon ESD rib knit fabric for the trims of ESD garments: 90% polyester with a full 10% carbon fibre, knitted as a 240 gsm rib with a 6 mm stripe, in white or black. Garment makers use it for polo collars, jacket cuffs and hems, because the trim must be as conductive as the body cloth. Phil Industries supplies it by the roll from Ubi, Singapore.

Why 10% carbon in a trim fabric

Collars and cuffs are small, but they are the parts of a garment most often in contact with the operator’s skin, and a non-conductive rib would break the grounding path. AF0120 carries five times the carbon of a typical body fabric, so it measures 10⁶ to 10⁷ Ω, at the conductive end of the dissipative range, and stays there as the rib stretches. That is why garment makers choose it for polo collars on ESD uniforms and for cuffs on jackets that ground through the wearer.

The 240 gsm rib has enough body to hold a collar shape and recover after stretching, and the polyester base launders without shrinking. In addition, we can knit weights from 200 to 800 gsm to order for heavier applications.

Applications

AF0120 finishes ESD polo shirts, jackets, smocks and cleanroom coveralls made from our woven and knitted body fabrics. In addition, laundries and garment services in Singapore use it to replace worn collars and cuffs on existing ESD uniforms. For a stretch cuff with spandex, see the AF0040 rib cuff instead.

Frequently asked questions

Why does it read lower resistance than the body fabric?

Because of the 10% carbon. A trim is small and heavily handled, so we knit it with more conductive yarn than the body panels. As a result, it never becomes the weak link in the grounding path.

Which colour should I choose?

White for cleanroom garments and white polos; black for dark ESD jackets and uniforms. Both share the same yarn and resistivity.

Can it be laundered with the garment?

Yes. Because it is polyester with the carbon in the knit, it launders on the same cycle as the body fabric and the property is permanent. Still, avoid fabric softeners.
