ESD Foam – Black Conductive Anti-Static Foam for Packaging
ESD foam is a black conductive, anti-static foam that cushions and protects electrostatic discharge-sensitive components inside packaging. Because the foam is conductive, it does two jobs at once: it absorbs physical shock, and it safely drains static charge away from the parts pressed into it.

Why conductive foam protects sensitive parts
When you push IC leads or a PCB into conductive foam, the foam holds every pin at the same potential, so damaging voltage cannot build up across the device. In addition, the cushioning absorbs vibration and impact during transport. As a result, conductive ESD foam is the standard lining for component trays, kitting boxes and shipping inserts.
Key features
- Conductive and anti-static — grounds component leads and dissipates charge
- Flame retardant for safer storage and transport
- Cushions and protects against shock and vibration
- Die-cuttable — we cut inserts, trays and profiles to your shape
- Black or custom colour, with custom sizes and thickness

Who uses it
Therefore, semiconductor and electronics manufacturers, packaging and kitting teams, and repair or RMA operations all use conductive ESD foam to ship and store sensitive boards, ICs and modules safely.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is ESD conductive foam used for?
Essentially, it cushions and protects ESD-sensitive components in packaging. So it lines trays, kitting boxes and shipping inserts, where it both absorbs shock and drains static.
What is the difference between conductive and anti-static foam?
Conductive foam has a lower surface resistance, so it actively grounds the leads pressed into it. Anti-static foam mainly avoids generating charge. Because this foam is conductive, it suits IC-lead and PCB protection.
Can you die-cut the foam to my shape?
Yes. For example, we cut inserts, cavities and profiles to your drawing, in your chosen thickness and size. So simply send us your dimensions or a sample.
Is the foam flame retardant?
Yes. In addition to its ESD properties, the foam is flame retardant, which makes it safer for storage and transport.
Do you stock ESD foam in Singapore?
Yes. Phil Industries supplies conductive ESD foam in Singapore, and we quote quickly on stock, sheets and die-cut parts. To order, call +65 6555 1745 or send an enquiry.
Frequently asked questions about the PE foam sponge
What is conductive PE foam sponge used for
It lines trays, cases and shipping cartons for PCBs, ICs and modules. Because the foam is conductive, it cushions the part and, at the same time, drains any static charge safely away.
What is the difference between black conductive foam and pink anti-static foam
Black conductive foam actively conducts charge to ground and suits direct contact with bare boards. By contrast, pink anti-static foam only stops charge building up on itself, so it is better for outer packaging.
Can the foam be cut to size
Yes. It cuts cleanly with a blade or die, so most customers trim sheets to their tray or carton. Alternatively, tell us the size and we can advise on the closest stock sheet.
Does it meet ANSI/ESD S20.20 packaging requirements
It is specified for ESD protected packaging under ANSI/ESD S541, which S20.20 references. Therefore, ask us for the datasheet with the measured surface resistance for your audit file.
