ESD classification: where 10⁶–10⁸ Ω sits

ANSI/ESD S20.20 defines a static-dissipative material as one measuring greater than 1 × 10⁴ Ω and less than 1 × 10¹¹ Ω. A surface resistivity of 10⁶–10⁸ Ω therefore sits in the middle of the dissipative band — conductive enough to bleed charge away in a controlled way, yet resistive enough to avoid the hard, fast discharge that damages sensitive devices.

Which test method applies to ESD gloves?

For gloves and finger cots the applicable in-use test method is ANSI/ESD STM15.1, which measures resistance through the glove as it is actually worn rather than on a flat coupon. Because a glove’s resistance shifts with wear, perspiration and coating condition, an ESD control programme built to ANSI/ESD S20.20 should re-verify gloves periodically in service, not only on receipt. The figure above is the manufacturer’s stated value; it is not a certification of your facility.

What does the EN 388 rating 4121 mean?

EN 388 rates mechanical risk in the order abrasion, blade cut, tear and puncture. A rating of 4121 means abrasion level 4, cut level 1, tear level 2 and puncture level 1. This is the four-digit form of the code; EN 388:2016 adds a fifth character for TDM cut resistance, so ask our Singapore engineering team for the current test report if your audit requires the 2016 format.

Stocked in Singapore

These ESD PU-coated gloves are held at our Ubi warehouse at 51 Ubi Ave 1 for same-day or next-day dispatch across Singapore, so a line stoppage does not wait on an overseas shipment. For sizing samples, an on-site demonstration or a quotation, message our engineers on WhatsApp at +65 9853 9030.
